Demo: Linux and MacOS release. Other updates.


The following is the log of the tasks completed for the current release of the demo. Everything crossed out represents completed tasks. 

  • Work on Steam Windows, MacOS, Linux demo release.
  • Continue working on Lost Palace and new mobs. Since the last release, work has been done on Lost Palace, but a lot more is still required, including environmental hazards and more interesting mobs.
  • Extend the tutorial into its own level. There needs to be more of a ramp-up to the game's intended difficulty, in order to raise player's confidence and understanding of the game's mechanics. In order to accomplish this, the scope of the tutorial will be increased to the length of the level. I'll keep the very linear nature of it so that the player can focus on improving their mastery of individual mechanics.
  • Enemies need more impact. Some enemies have sound effects when the Knight interacts with them, but not all. Will seek help with this since interacting with enemies is one of the most important game loops.
  • Rebalances. Made small changes to both the tutorial and Abandoned Kingdoms, especially with the latter. The Knight now has a chance to collect all weapon buffs prior to entering the dungeon as a way to reduce the difficult of the level. Will likely continue to make balance updates as development continues.
  • Add invisible wall to prevent Knight from leaving boss room while it's activated. Will just design levels such that if the Knight can leave, the boss will reset.
  • Add option to disable ghostly messages (speed-run friendly option).
  • Linux and MacOS demo releases. Will be working on this next.
  • Verify the game is accessible on the itch.io launcher. It is highly recommended to play the game through the itch.io launcher, especially for MacOS. For Windows, it is possible to easily download and launch the game directly from the executable. For Linux, to do the same you will have to either run the game as super user or change the mode of the folder to allow for executables (chmod -R +x slayer-knight-linux-demo). For MacOS, run the game through the itch.io launcher.  The game on its own is not signed for MacOS, so the launcher is necessary.
